Health-Oriented Leadership
Maintenance and promotion of physical and mental health are key for improved well-being. Leaders play an important part in this: recently, literature discusses the role of leadership in terms of “health-oriented leadership” (HoL) for a sustainable implementation of structural and behavioural prevention measures (Franke & Felfe, 2011; Franke et al., 2014). Especially challenging are recently developing new kinds of labour and employment (virtual teams, fixed-term and temporary workers, interim managers, cloud & click workers, liquid workforce) – for supervisors as well as their employees who are confronted with precarious employment. This project’s goal is to assess whether and how new standards of health-oriented leadership can be developed that effectively and sustainably support workplace health-promotion. Furthermore, it is important to identify conditions which facilitate or hinder health-oriented leadership behaviour, especially regarding flexible labour and employment.
